ForSale.ky ("ForSale.ky", "we", "us" or "our") operates the ForSale.ky online classifieds marketplace for the Cayman Islands, available at forsale.ky and through the ForSale.ky mobile apps for iOS and Android (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to everyone who visits or uses the Service.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you give us
- Account details: your name, display name, email address and password (stored only as a one-way encrypted hash) when you register with email.
- Profile details: optional username, profile photo, bio, phone number and district.
- Listings: titles, descriptions, prices, photos, category, district and category-specific details (for example vehicle make, model and year; property details; job details).
- Messages and offers: messages, images and price offers you exchange with other users through the Service.
- Paid features: when you request a featured listing or advertisement, the package selected, amount, payment status and the contact details you give us to arrange payment.
- Support and reports: information you send through our contact form, reports of suspicious listings or users, and reviews you leave.
1.2 Information from Google and Apple sign-in
If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only the following from that provider, and only with your permission on their sign-in screen:
- Google Sign-In: your name, email address, profile picture URL, and a unique Google account identifier. We request only the basic
openid,emailandprofilescopes. - Sign in with Apple: a unique Apple account identifier, your email address (which may be a private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email") and, the first time you sign in, your name.
We do not receive your Google or Apple password, and we do not access your contacts, calendar, files, email messages or any other data in your Google or Apple account.
1.3 Information collected automatically
- Device and browser type, operating system, and app version.
- IP address and approximate location derived from it.
- Pages and listings viewed, searches, and listing view counts.
- Essential cookies and local storage used to keep you signed in and secure your session.
2. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in, including through Google or Apple.
- To publish your listings and profile and let buyers and sellers find and contact each other.
- To deliver messages and offers and to send you notifications about them by email (for example, "You have a new message").
- To send service emails such as account confirmation, password reset and replies to your support requests.
- To process requests for featured listings and advertisements.
- To moderate content, investigate reports, prevent fraud, scams and abuse, and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
- To understand how the Service is used so we can fix problems and improve it.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or to build advertising profiles.
3. Google user data
Information we receive through Google Sign-In (your name, email address, profile picture and Google account identifier) is used only to create your ForSale.ky account, sign you in, show your name and photo on your profile, and contact you about your account and conversations. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties except the service providers listed in section 4 that host and operate the Service on our behalf, or where required by law. You can disconnect ForSale.ky from your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions and ask us to delete your data as described in section 7.
ForSale.ky's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. How we share your information
With other users. Your public profile (display name, username, photo, bio, district), your listings and your reviews are visible to anyone using the Service. Messages and offers are visible only to the participants in that conversation. Your email address is never shown publicly. Your phone number is shown only if you add it to your profile or a listing.
With service providers who process data on our behalf under contract, only as needed to run the Service:

For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, court order or a competent authority, or where necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or ForSale.ky, including to investigate fraud or scams.
Business transfers. If ForSale.ky is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
5. Where your information is stored
ForSale.ky serves users in the Cayman Islands. Our service providers store and process data in the United States. We take steps to ensure your information remains protected in line with this Policy and applicable law, including the Cayman Islands Data Protection Act (as revised).
6. How long we keep your information
- Account and profile data: for as long as your account is open.
- Listings: while the listing is live and for a reasonable period afterwards so you can relist or view your history; you can delete a listing at any time.
- Messages: for as long as either participant's account is open, so both sides keep their conversation history.
- Email delivery logs: up to 12 months, for troubleshooting and abuse prevention.
- Payment records: as long as required for accounting and legal purposes.
When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep it to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or prevent fraud.
7. Your rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information, most of which you can edit directly in your profile and listings.
- Delete your account and personal information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Unsubscribe from notification emails using the link in any such email. We will still send essential account emails such as password resets.
- Revoke Google or Apple access from your Google account permissions page or your Apple ID settings ("Sign in with Apple").
To make a request, email privacy@forsale.ky from the address linked to your account, or use our contact form. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Cayman Islands Ombudsman.
8. Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, row-level access controls so that users can only read and change data they are allowed to, and restricted administrative access. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires.
9. Children
The Service is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date and, for significant changes, notify you by email or in the Service.
